Shark Fin Bans in Canada

Good news! Shark fin bans are continuing to be implemented here and there. The latest one in Canada: Coquitlam in British Columbia.

Of course, it’d be easier if Canada had a country-wide ban on shark finning! It would require the Federal Government in Ottawa to do something!

MP Hoang Mai was at Total Diving last month to talk about what Ottawa could/should do about shark finning in Canada. The petition to support their proposed legislation is available at Total Diving. Please come sign it! Ottawa do not recognize electronic petitions :(

The steps for you to become a safe scuba diver who feels comfortable underwater and truly enjoy the underwater world are as follows:

  1. Prep Session: with a scuba diving professionals at the Total Diving Montreal dive shop.
  2. Learn to Dive with PADI Pool Lessons: we teach all over the island of Montreal and more!
  3. PADI Open Water Diver Certification: in Montreal or down South during a vacation.
  4. National Geographic Diver: 2 dives to enjoy scuba diving as an underwater explorer!
  5. PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course: 5 more dives with an instructor. It makes quite a difference!

For your convenience, these steps are all included in the Total DiverTMtraining program.

Should I Try Scuba Diving? Maybe not!

Now that we have your attention… It’s the “scuba tryout session” that we are questioning! Not scuba diving!

We regularly talk to people who are saying things like: “I might as well do a tryout and then I’ll see.” It almost makes sense, right? Well… We think it doesn’t!

For us, it would be like saying: I’ll try walking once and then I’ll see.

Imagine if you didn’t like your first experience at walking (you probably fell flat on your face) and you had given up? Imagine going through life on all-fours!

Maybe learning to dive is different… But we don’t think so!

We think that you will love it. It’s an amazing world! It’s a life-changing experience. And it will take you about 10 open water dives to start to really enjoy being underwater. It takes time to feel comfortable underwater.

So… Go ahead if you insist… Take a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience in a pool in Montreal, if you want to “see”! But we would rather hear you being committed to learning to walk - I mean, learning to scuba dive - and, then, we can help you achieve this goal.
